New York Times Bestselling Author Eric Jerome Dickey discussing his book Chasing Destiny & the Divas For A Cure organization founder Jan Emanuel discussing the 2006 Divas Ride For A Cure Motorcycle Run for Breast Cancer with Kathy Erickson from Swedish American Center for Women in Rockford, IL

In #6 New York Times Bestselling novel CHASING DESTINY, Billie (aka "Ducati") is known as much for her extraordinary beauty as for the sexy yellow motorcycle she rides through the mean streets of Los Angeles. Tough, talented, and self-assured, Billie's used to doing things her way--but that was before love threw an oil slick in the road and spun her life into chaos.

Billie's first problem is simple: she's pregnant…Her second problem is that her lover, Keith, is still married. Keith has some "things" to deal with, and the people in his life are dark and duplicitous enough to take matters into their own hands, determined to keep Billie from having her baby. Billie suddenly finds herself confronted, attacked, run off highways, threatened and shadowed. Keith still has ties to his manipulative wife, Carmen, and he adores his fifteen-year-old daughter Destiny. Will he do the right thing by his new family, or stand by his old one?

Soon all eyes shift as everyone finds themselves desperately chasing Destiny, a troubled and deceptive girl dancing on the edge of womanhood. When the rubber meets the road, all the madness with Billie, Carmen, and Keith comes to a head. Everyone's fighting dirty for what they want...and they're all willing to destroy their enemy or go down in flames to get it.

Eric Jerome Dickey, originally from Memphis, Tennessee, is the New York Times best-selling author of Genevieve, Drive Me Crazy, Naughty or Nice, The Other Woman, Thieves' Paradise, Between Lovers, Liar's Game, Cheaters, Milk in My Coffee, Friends and Lovers, and Sister Sister, as well as a contributor to Voices from the Other Side: Dark Dreams II, Got to Be Real and NAL's Mothers & Sons. In 2006 he was nominated for the NAACP Image Award for Literature. He was selected by Marvel Comics to produce Storm, an exciting new six-comic mini-series that was released in time for Black History Month and focuses on two special characters of color. Dickey worked as a computer programmer, a middle school teacher, actor, and stand up comic before becoming a full-time novelist.

Just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October!

Divas For A Cure is Featured in the October issue of Upscale Magazine!

The article features Divas For A Cure organization founder Jan "Sunny the Diva" Emanuel discussing the 2006 Divas Ride For A Cure Motorcyle Run for Breast Cancer. Just in time for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Check it out!

Despite her vibrant personality and pleasantly attractive looks, Jan “Sunny-The Diva” Emanuel has quietly survived three bouts with cancer, a stroke and cardiac arrest. While many would have thrown in the towel, Emanuel certainly isn’t among them.

Instead, Emanuel formed Divas for a Cure, a core group of women who share a common love for motorcycling and living life to the fullest. On July 23, the divas embarked on a 23-day “Divas Ride for A Cure,” a 7,800 mile cross-country ride, traveling coast to coast from San Francisco to Florida and then to New York and back. Along the way, they made numerous stops at Harley-Davidson dealerships and other locations to raise money for breast cancer awareness. The Core Group of Riders was lead by Jan and escorted by official Road Captain, Michael Proctor, "Trailblazer" who is a member of the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club, Sacramento Chapter.

The organization is dedicated to promoting early detection, education, screenings and supporting research organizations to continue the quest to one day find a cure and eradicating cancers of all kinds. Proceeds from this summers ride will be dedicated towards the goal of health fairs and educational materials, wig donations for women enduring chemotherapy, mobile breast exams into segments of society that do not ordinarily seek or receive medical attention due to socioeconomic conditions.

Divas For A Cure is a California Non-Profit Public Benefit Corporation.

Every woman has health issues to face. That's why Swedish American created the Center for Women — a unique resource for information on every aspect of women's health. Their attentive staff includes registered nurses, women's health nurse practitioners, and technologists, who take the time to listen and respond to their patients needs. Swedish American Center for Women is a proud sponsor of the Divas Ride for A Cure event in Rockford, IL.

Breast cancer affects one in eight women each year in the United States. However, through early detection your chance for a full recovery is dramatically improved. Swedish American Center for Women offers mammography services that save lives. They offer women the opportunity to have a screening mammogram and, if necessary, a diagnostic mammogram and additional testing the same day. This brings great peace of mind to their patients, who are not required to wait for results.

Kathy Erickson is a registered nurse with extensive experience in women's health, serving in management and program development for the past 20 years. She is currently the Manager or Women's Outpatient Services at Swedish American Health System. She is responsible for the daily operational and staffing issues in the Center for Women which includes a comprehensive breast care center, routine gynecological care, midlife consultations, and osteoporosis screening. In addition she conducts support groups and educational programs for members of the community. Kathy is currently working on the development of a bladder health and pelvic floor program which will be opening in January of 2007.
